The Centre of Information Technology

The Centre of Information Technology (BME IK) was founded by Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in 1998. Its name has been changed to Public Administration’s Centre of Information Technology (BME IK), without change in its operations.

The goal of BME IK is to initiate, organise and coordinate cooperation between the University, other research groups and industry partners for various national, international R&D projects. The Centre utilises and coordinates its own resources, as well as the resources of the University to build cooperation with the IT industry. BME IK strives to take part in highly knowledge intensive IT development projects in order to be able to improve the competitiveness of national SMEs through technology transfer.

BME IK has ongoing cooperation with numerous national and multinational companies and research institutes. It works with government and administration organizations to aid them in solving their IT tasks.

In 1998, the Council of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) established the BME Informatics Centre (BME IK), which was renamed the Centre for Public Administration Informatics in 2009, while retaining its full profile.

The BME IK aims to initiate, organise and coordinate cooperation between research groups and development institutions within and outside the University in externally funded (national and international tenders, market orders) research and development work. The Centre promotes and coordinates the utilisation of its own knowledge base and that of other BME departments, cooperation with market players in the information economy, and the transfer of knowledge from the Centre and other university groups.
